It should be remembered that the Plenary decided on August 5 not to meet again until the situation was resolved after three days of fruitless negotiations.

This Monday, the members of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) will meet again to elect a president after having noted progress in the negotiations. A meeting that will be held three days before the opening of the judicial year.

It should be remembered that the Plenary decided on August 5 not to meet again until the situation was resolved after three days of fruitless negotiations. Sources consulted by Europa Press indicated that this new meeting does not imply that an agreement will be reached, but they acknowledged that there is some progress and that the new Presidency could be on the right track.

Last Wednesday, the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Parliament, Félix Bolaños, said that the members "will make the best decision" in this new meeting, highlighting that the candidates have "undisputed" prestige and an "impeccable" track record.
The candidates

The candidates to preside over the governing body of judges and the Supreme Court are Esperanza Córdoba, Antonio del Moral, Ana Ferrer, Ángeles Huet, Carmen Lamela, Pablo Lucas and Pilar Teso.

The members agreed to choose between Teso –proposed by the progressive wing– and Lucas –promoted by the conservatives–, but after several votes they were unable to break the tie at 10 between both candidates. This failure made them return to square one, so they will have to choose again between the seven names.
